OUR INSPIRATION
Paul Fraser
In March of 2017 Paul hadn't been feeling the best and saw the doctor as a result. Being only 41 the Doc thought his symptoms were similar to colitis. Nothing to worry about, no big deal, but to verify they ordered a colonoscopy. Fun right? Turns out, the colonoscopy was the least of his worries, during it, they found a mass in his colon near the "exit" sign. The docs biopsied the mass and it turned out cancerous - Colorectal Adeno Carcinoma to be specific. A very common type of colon cancer but cancer non the less. Immediately, the docs ordered an CT scan to see if it spread. The results of the CT scan were another bundle of fun and it verified it had spread to some lymph nodes scattered around his abdomen and possibly to his L2 vertebrae. At that point they knew that was stage 3 and likely stage 4 cancer.
For the next five years Paul fought a battle and became a warrior. Countless surgeries, doctors visits, meds, discomfort and pain. However, not once did he complain and if you were on the outside looking in you saw a healthy man - you would no idea that his cancer was terminal. During his fight, Paul was humbled by the love and well wishes he received and even at his lowest times he made sure other fighters, nurses and caregivers were taken care of. That was Paul - a man with a heart of gold and that is where Captain Awesome Cares was born.
While Paul lost his battle to cancer on April 17, 2022, his sickness never defined him. It is in Paul's legacy that Captain Awesome Cares, Inc, a 501(c)(3) organization was started to support both Cancer Fighters and Caregivers, so they know they are not in this fight alone.
